Aims and methods

Aims:

• to discover and highlight different causes of violence, their structures and patterns in the lives of South African and German youth

• to empower participants to reflect on personal experiences with violence

• to enable participants to work on own patterns of violent behavior and reactions
  
  
• to encounter different options of active non-violence based on new approaches to biblical ethical guidelines 

Methodology 

• Interactive Teaching & Multimedia Approach

• Exhibition "Canaan is everywhere" (Informal Settlement, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal)

• 3-D Simulation "Canaan - violence and the plight of refugees"

• Role play

• Video clips, i.e. "A day in the life in Canaan", "Soweto", "Violence in a German subway"

• Reader on prevention of violence

• Teachers Guide on the project "Steps against violence"

• Accompanying project proposals

• Press clippings, media references

• 140 facilitators have been trained between 1997 – 2011 working within a network of regional clusters in churches and schools

• Leadership training and continuing education workshops are offered on a regular basis
